Moving Premises
Moving Out
If your situation is not a standard change of tenancy, we may need to process it as a change of occupier instead. This applies where the legal entity remains connected to the premises, responsibility is shared, or occupation is not exclusive. If we identify this during validation, we will contact you to confirm the correct route and the additional information required before we proceed.
If you are moving site, taking over a new premises, or leaving a premises, tell us as early as you can. This helps us issue a final bill, open the new account correctly, and avoid estimated charges.
Before you start, note the following points.
Evidence is required in all cases - We will ask for documents that show the move in or move out date and the party responsible for the premises.
Responsibility for charges - The outgoing party remains responsible for all charges until the change of tenancy has been validated and we have formally accepted and processed it.
Notification must be timely and backdating is limited - We will only accept a change of tenancy notification within 28 days of the effective date. If you notify us later than this, we will not backdate the change by more than 28 days from the date we receive your request.
Outgoing party details are required - Provide a named contact, email address and phone number for the outgoing occupier or responsible person.
We will validate before processing - We will contact the outgoing party to confirm the change of tenancy details. We will not complete the change until validation is complete.
Time limits apply - If we request further information and do not receive a response within 3 business days, we may close the request and you may need to resubmit.
We may reject a request - This includes, but is not limited to, where documentation is missing or unclear, we cannot validate the change, the parties appear connected or non-independent, the premises are not exclusively occupied, or the information provided is inconsistent with metering or registration data.
